Abstract

This research aims to determine the extent to which Iraq can join the BRICS bloc, in light of the current international challenges, through the analysis of economic, political, and geostrategic factors that affect the chances of joining. The research examines the emergence and development of BRICS as an emerging economic power, seeking to reshape the global financial and economic system, and reduce the dominance of Western institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank .The research focuses on Iraq's economic fundamentals, including energy resources, GDP size, and foreign trade, and the compatibility of these factors with BRICS requirements. Opportunities that accession may provide, such as diversifying business partnerships, boosting investments, and phasing out dependence on the US dollar, are also analyzed .In addition, the study discusses the political and economic challenges that may hinder Iraq, including the unstable internal situation, US influence, regional tensions, as well as the impact of sanctions imposed on some BRICS member states, which may affect the group's expansionist policies .Finally, the study reviews the possible scenarios for Iraq's accession, whether through gradual economic partnership or full accession, with recommendations to enhance Iraq's chances of achieving economic integration with the BRICS countries and achieving greater economic independence on the international stage.
